Yusuke Urameshi is a young 14-year-old thug, a brawler, a bad student, but despite this scum attitude he will nevertheless save the life of a little boy about to be run over by a car. But unfortunately, this heroic act will cost him his life and yet it is the beginning of long adventures for our young deceased.
Indeed, his death being unexpected (no one thought that this thug was going to sacrifice himself for a child), it poses a problem for Enma Jr, the son of the judge of the underworld.
The young Enma therefore decides to give Yusuke a test to judge his qualities, and if he succeeds he can become a shadow detective and more importantly, he will come back to life but he will have to hunt down and fight all the demons and Yokais who do harm.
To fulfill his mission, he will be helped by his spiritual guide Botan and powerful allies.
They will have to face during their journey opponents all more powerful than each other.
